Evolution Martial Arts is proud to offer Taekwondo, Hapkido and Judo. All classes are taught
by professional, caring instructors who believe that cultivation of UNDERSTANDING is just
as important as the ability to learn movements and forms. Our core philosophy as a school is
that we respect and learn from traditions of the past but are not afraid to look to the future
and grow in as many ways as possible.
TAEKWONDO
Our Baljundo Kwan Taekwondo is for ages 6 and up and is not to be confused with the
SPORT of Taekwondo. We do compete in tournaments when interest is there but we do
not focus our classes on competition Taekwondo. What we practice is an Art Form, a
Form of Self-Defense and a Way of Life. We help to build life skills and while we believe
that disciplining is important it is secondary to instilling SELF-discipline. Taekwondo is
primarily a kicking and striking art that relies on and develops good cardiovascular
training, speed and flexibility however this system also incorporates the strong kicks and
punches of Taekwondo and Karate with the flowing control movements and throws of
Aikido, Hapkido and Judo.
HAPKIDO
Baljundo Kwan Hapkido consists of joint locking, body control, throws/takedowns, pain
compliance as well as many of the kicks, strikes and blocks found in Taekwondo and
Karate. Hapkido is best translated as "the way of coordinated power." Our Baljundo Kwan
Hapkido is literally an "Evolving Path School of Hapkido". This program is designed to
blend the tradition of Martial Arts practice with the self-defense requirements of today's
world. Unlike many other "new" systems of Martial Arts we are not a hodge-podge blend of
random techniques that merely complement other styles, but a complete and stand-alone
system of martial arts adapting the BEST and MOST FUNCTIONAL techniques from many
styles and systems into a practical and useful self-defense program.
JUDO
Judo is translated as the "gentle way", and teaches the principle of flexibility in the
application of technique. This is the flexible or efficient use of balance, leverage, and
movement in the performance of Judo throws and other skills. Skill, technique and timing,
rather than the use of brute strength, are the essential ingredients for success in Judo.
The principles of Judo, such as "Maximum Efficiency" and "Mutual Welfare and Benefit",
can also be used in our dealings with others in life. The ultimate goal in Judo is to develop
oneself to the maximum extent possible, always striving for perfection, so that you can
contribute something of value to the world. This class takes a more recreational/sport
approach to the art while still embracing its true and practical martial roots.
